Sorry, Mom. You always knew better. Generally, the complete inability to take a joke is not any mark of intellectual prowess. I'd be happy to match wits with you any day of the week. Life is a pageant of both the sacred and profane. Those with interest in the arts should especially appreciate this. You seem especially perturbed by the idea of "vulgarity". If that is the case you would have hated Mozart.

A true maestro does not really need to see anything to conduct superbly...the important thing is that the orchestra sees them! Conductors who are in touch with their orchestra do use often eye gestures to cue in players and sections (while their hands keep track of the timing) but may at other times they close their eyes and 'feel' the music,cutting out the multitude of visual distractions and using audio as their only guide. Often the score has been memorized so they don't even need to read it!

One of the things I like about these videos is that one moment when the violins or winds are playing a great melody, the camera will shift over to the timpani or the bass section, which normally you wouldn't be listening to, and you realize the sheer dimensionality Beethoven achieved with his writing. Kudos to the team who filmed these videos (and of course the great players and conductor)!

My freaking god grow up, so what you can read a dictionary and use some bigger words. There is no proof that you are more intelligent then anyone else just because they speak in a less "modified" language. And if you feel the need to bring up IQ, tests, or grades then obviosly you aren't useing your brain because what is the point, just because you listen to a genius' work it doesn't make you smart
