Someone I know suggested she uses it to catch her breath between dance numbers, because although she's very fit, she gets breathless at 50 and fooling with the guitar gives her a logical reason to look down, pause and get her breath back. Plus she has always relied on spectacle, as her voice is in tune, but not strong.
