good eye, I did not include a shot of the rubber diaphragm on the end of the tube next to the amplifier. The amp vibrations pulse the diaphragm, the diaphragm moves the gas, which is flaming through the holes on top, just like a gas stove. There are diagrams on line, check wikipedia. It is a dangerous project, I recommend not doing it. If the diaphragm comes off you have a room full of gas. and flame.

did you have to create an oxidizing region prior to the tube and cant i just get a speaker and attach it to the pipe....

NO. YOU WILL BLOW YOURSELF UP. All gas must be contained in the tube. The speaker end of the tube has a rubber diaphragm. The sound from the speaker "taps" the diaphragm which pulses the gas through the tube. DIRECTLY ATTACHING A SPEAKER COULD HAVE ALL THE GAS IGNITE, EXPLODING. You can search for diagrams online. Not sure what you mean by oxydizing region.

Your Ruben's Tube video is the BEST one I've seen! Keep up the good work with your performance art. I think you are very thoughtful to choose an instrument that shows the frequencies so well. besides the fact that the ruben was perfectly made, its in a closed room, the sound is very clear and clean and because of the perfection of the holes, they didnt had to open a lot on the gas valve
