Uploaded by: redneckland
Video Stream Description:
The X-49A made its first flight on June 30, 2007 for 15 minutes at Boeing's Wilmington, Delaware test center. This flight included hovering, pedal turns, and slow forwards and sideways flight using the VTDP for anti-torque, directional and trim control. As late October 2007, the X-49 has nearly completed its initial testing phase. It has flown 24 flights for a total of 19 hours so far.

I dunno, she kinda has a really big backside, it seems to pull the backend down a bit so takeoff's and constant hard landings might weaken the structure between the tail and center.

So ass-heavy it can barely takeoff. Not enough antitorque to keep the whole thing from rolling into main rotor spin. 160 knots is what the Crashhawk /should/ be able to do on it's own. 177 knots is only possible with an unload. No mention of main disk loading effects on maneuver or fuel burn in 'turbo mode'. The XH-51 was doing 250 knots in 1962. AH-56 200 knots in 1972. This is nothing.

tilting-Tail-Rotor concept should be far better. Kind of a lame project, if you ask me...

I like how they want to make the helicopters extremely fast, but the tail rotor weighs the helicopter down. Nice idea, bad design.
